This paper considers the degree to whcih the concpet of the rational utility maximizer characterizes the idea of rationality, with the assumption being that human beings are maximize rationality in the way they make choices, based on the assumption of rational choice that the human being is guided primarily by self-interest, thus assuming that man is an egoistic, rational utility maximizer.
